Hi
I really like all of the Masterpiece shows but I have a problem. I am suprised that there doesn't seem to be any other posts on this subject. I have a very hard time understanding a lot of the dialog. The background sound and music drown out the dialog. I realize this is a production thing but couldn't something be done on future productions to alleviate this problem? After all, we don't all have the hearing of a fox.
Thank You
Jim

Actually it has been brought up -- see the discussions under Mystery:Lewis.

Using headphones while viewing on a PC is a good fix. But others were also suggested.

My local broadcast station has a poor signal so I seldom use the TV. The sound is of poor quality due to some sort of mismatch between British and US sound format I think. The digital files available from the website for PBS seem to have better sound quality.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is I have a nice TV and sound system. They just seem to have to much and too loud background: traffic, crowd sounds etc.

You might try using the equalizer (if the sound system is that fancy) on your TV to block some of the frequencies if it is pulling in too much background. Some systems for home theaters (if that is what you have) require tuning to your room's acoustic characteristics.

TV and movie sound formats are not very standardized.

Not really, but I watch it on PBS.org and listen to headphones so it's different for me, I suppose. Very Happy
