| Anyone who has ever watched a friend, parent, wife, or husband develop Alzheimer’s knows all too well how devastating the disease can be. There are no medications to reverse its effects in humans, and promising research using a class of experimental drugs called HDAC inhibitors, which seem to restore memories in mice, may be decades away from clinical applications. Yet related research suggests that making someone’s environment more enriched—with stimulating activities and social interaction—might also enhance memories. Do you have stories about someone with Alzheimer’s who has been helped by a change in living conditions or by particular activities? |
