| According to New Yorker business columnist and author James Surowiecki, large crowds of people are in some ways “smarter” than a brainy few, no matter how intelligent those few happen to be. It’s a counterintuitive notion, but the evidence is clear: If you ask 50 people to guess the number of jellybeans in a jar, their averaged answer will almost always be closer to the real number than any individual guess. Does the notion of “crowd wisdom” ring true to you? When making a choice, such as picking a stock or placing a bet in the Super Bowl, would you rather take advice from just one or two experts or go along with the crowd? |
