If you’ve ever wondered how a frog survives the winter, the North American wood frog has a heart-stopping strategy. It freezes as hard as a rock, its heart stops beating for weeks or even months, and then come spring, its heart and brain thaw first, then its body, all in perfect synchrony, a spontaneous resumption of function. And no one knows what triggers that event. Got any theories?
