| We can't stop earthquakes or hurricanes, but we might be able to prevent a deadly asteroid from hitting our planet. Spurred by the remote but real possibility that a rocky orb called Apophis could strike Earth in the year 2036 with devastating effects, scientists are exploring ways to deflect asteroids, including the use of a "gravitational tractor." Should more money be spent researching how to nudge asteroids out of the way, or finding the tens of thousands of asteroids out there that could be headed our way? What do you think? |
