Organizations from NASA to privately owned businesses are funding research into a “space elevator,” which theoretically could move packages and people up a 22,000-mile-long cable into orbit using lasers instead of rockets. If they succeed, would you be in favor of opening up the solar system to exploration, settlement, and resource extraction? What do you see as potential advantages/disadvantages?
